Holding the Holder:
an expressive arts group for helping professionals
About the group
As helping professionals, we spend our days supporting others through grief, trauma, crisis, uncertainty, and change. We hold stories, emotions, and responsibilities that often go unseen. While this work is deeply meaningful, it can also be emotionally demanding.

Holding the Holder was created to offer the same compassion, support, and care that helping professionals so freely extend to others.

This six-week expressive arts group provides a dedicated space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and nurture your own well-being. Through creative expression, guided reflection, mindfulness, writing, and supportive discussion, participants will explore the emotional impact of helping professions while strengthening practices that promote resilience and sustainable self-care.

No artistic experience is necessary. The focus is on the process rather than creating a finished piece of art.

Expressive arts can help access thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to express through words alone, creating opportunities for insight, stress reduction, and emotional restoration.

Throughout the group, participants will explore topics such as:
-
Burnout and compassion fatigue
-
Boundaries and sustainable caregiving
-
Perfectionism and self-compassion
-
Grief and emotional processing
-
Reconnecting with creativity and joy
-
Building practices that support long-term wellness
This group welcomes therapists, counselors, psychologists, social workers, healthcare professionals, educators, first responders, case managers, and anyone working in a helping profession who is looking for a space dedicated to their own healing and restoration.
Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or simply want to invest in your own well-being before burnout occurs, Holding the Holder offers an opportunity to pause, reflect, create, and reconnect alongside others who understand the unique demands of helping work.

Group Leaders
At Premier Psychotherapy groups are led by trained mental health professionals with specialized experience in expressive arts therapy, counseling, and creating safe, supportive spaces for healing. Together, Lauren Levine, LPC, Registered Expressive Arts Therapist, and MK Kahl, Counseling Intern, guide participants through creative experiences that encourage reflection, restoration, and authentic connection. Our goal is to provide helping professionals with a space where they can step out of their caregiving role, reconnect with themselves, and develop sustainable practices for well-being.
