"Hi, I’m MK, a practicum/internship student currently completing my master’s degree in clinical
mental health counseling with the University of Pittsburgh. I have been interested in the
counseling field since the ripe age of fifteen years old. Since then, I have done everything under
the sun to become involved with the helping profession.
In my teen years, I started my own therapy journey to learn more about the profession from
the ‘client perspective’. Shortly after, I began my undergraduate degree at Duquesne
University. There, I majored in psychology and minored in intercultural engagement and
communication. Additionally, I spend many days in the career counseling office, again, eager to
dip my toe into any aspect of the counseling profession.
During my undergraduate years, I continued to explore my interests through various
employment and volunteer opportunities. I worked for a holistic brain health program, where I
guided clients through sensorimotor and cognitive practices to address the root causes of
various challenges. I also volunteered at a nonprofit and worked directly with the resident
social worker to educate community members on coping strategies and build support plans for
individual patrons.
I am currently focused on individual therapy with adults, young adults, and children. I align with
humanistic-existential therapeutic approaches, such as client-centered, gestalt, and existential
therapies. The focus of these approaches is the exploration of client strengths while fostering a
strong therapeutic relationship and ultimately reaching one’s growth potential.
Therapy to me, is taking the leap into curiosity of oneself and holding an openness to what
might be found. It is my priority that every client begins this exploration in a warm, accepting
environment where growth and healing can sprout. This includes catering the therapeutic
journey to the needs of the individual client, emphasizing cultural awareness, and protecting
the LGBTQIA+ affirming space.
If this therapeutic space feels right to you, please feel free to reach out!"
