Areas of Expertise

Erika Gilmore is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been working in the mental health field for nine years. Erika obtained her MS.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Duquesne University and is currently pursing her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from The University of the Cumberlands.

Trauma-Focused Play Therapy

While working with young children, Erika uses a child-centered approach with Trauma Focused Play Therapy. This method allows children who do not have the vocabulary to share through words to process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in an age-appropriate way- such as through play and art. These skills cross over in working with adult clients as well. Everyone from all ages can benefit from play, so if you are an adult and would like to engage in a different approach, please reach out as well.

Erika works with both adults and children on healing the wounds that trauma or stressful events have created in their lives. When working with clients, Erika utilizes an integrative approach to best meet the needs of the client. Erika believes that everyone could benefit from a safe space to explore one's thoughts, feelings, and experiences, as well as having a space to learn skills for emotion regulation and understanding oneself. This therapeutic space is LGBTQIA+-affirming.

My Approach

Erika believes that every client comes to her with individualized strengths and interests that can be built upon in a safe environment to develop positive coping skills and techniques to heal from the past and move towards a healthier future.

Erika works hard to create a place where anyone can relax and be fully self-expressed, without fear of judgement while engaging in the therapeutic process.
